Nevada Lawmaker Ira Hansen Is Forced From Leadership Post Over Remarks on Minorities

As noted in last week's Barbwire, Sparks Assemblyman Ira Hansen, R-KKK, remains firmly in control of the Nevada Legislature's lower house despite self-defrocking as speaker.

His puppet replacement John Hambrick, R-Las Vegas, demoted Michele Fiore, R-Gomorrah South, as chair of the taxation committee.

Ira immediately ordered her reinstated.

Understandable. Who better to run taxation than someone who owes a million in taxes, much of it employee Social Security witholdings?

Fiore accused Hambrick of perpetrating a "war on women."

Ira's support of Machine Gun Michele is bizarre self-satire, given his long record of female-bashing.

Ira showed ole fuss 'n' feathers John that you don't mess with one of his ammosexual machismas. (She admits to carrying a gun at all times, even where illegal.)

Ira may have been forced to cosmetically step down because of his past racist writings in this newspaper, but he's still boss.

Exercising speaker's power, he appointed himself chair of the Judiciary Committee which handles all legislation involving the gambling industry, speaking of which...

LIBEL, SLANDER AND CON is the nickname lawyers have given the big-time juice law firm Lionel, Sawyer and Collins.

New Nevadan and freshly-minted Attorney General Adam Domenici Laxalt just named an LSC top gun as his chief gambling industry deputy.

The firm can now peddle the image of influence with a top/powerful regulator.

I'm sure Brin Gibson, scion of a powerful LV political family, is eminently qualified but nonetheless the latest example of the good ole boy system.

I worry about the fate of the consumer advocate's office under the untested Mr. Laxalt and a big business legislature.

ADIOS, JON. As I predicted in January, Jon Ralston's show is the first casualty of Channel 4's new management now that longtime owner Jim Rogers is dead.

As the late great Travus T. Hipp once opined, if you've got both sides mad at you, you're doing something right.

Former Las Vegas Review-Journal Editor Thomas Mitchell rejoiced at Jon's cancellation, trashing him for intimidating politicians and officeholders for information.

Ain't that his job, Tom?

Jon's married to former Reno Councilmember Jessica Sferrazza, so we should see a lot of him in these parts.
