"You buy 'em the book and they chew on the corners," my late wife once mused.

Last Friday's Regional Transportation Commission brouhaha would have probably received no press coverage if not for the special bulletin I uploaded. (Read the full story at NevadaLabor.com/)

Reporters showed up from KRNV TV-4 and the Reno Kazoo-Journal, as the late great columnist Guy Richardson termed his employer.

Both ignored the best part.

After three hours of stultifying testimony on a corporate welfare money grab by local developers, Reno Councilman Dave Aiazzi and Sparks Councilman Ron Smith, the RTC chairman, got into a heated argument over Aiazzi's accusation that his fellow commissioners were doing the bidding of campaign contributors.

Smith abruptly recessed the meeting. Aiazzi and developer Perry DiLoreto then got into a hallway argument that came very close to physical combat.

The attending journalists witnessed it, recorded it and reported none of it.

I gave 'em the book and they chewed on the corners.

SIMPLIFYING THE STULTIFYING. For some cockamamie reason, developers have been issued 902,000 RTC "credits" against future impact fees for doing what had to be done anyway, such as building streets.

Most have already recovered their costs from home buyers.

The credits are like grocery store coupons. Use it or lose it.

The big boys now want taxpayers to cash them out before expiration.

RTC's lawyer advised that purchasing the unused coupons is illegal.

RTC Executive Director Lee Gibson responded that he can move maintenance money around.

Would you want to ride an RTC bus if you knew that it was being maintained to the standards of rural Afghanistan?

The shell game continues.

THE IMMORTALS. I promised great news from last week's Nevada Press Association convention.

The late, great columnist Guy Richardson was inducted into the NPA Hall of Fame on Saturday.

I nominated him (Barbwire July 22) and recruited endorsements from his former colleagues.

Guy has strong connections to the Tribune.

I started this column because of him, so you can blame him for me.

Guy's late former wife, Eloise, worked in the Trib's ad department for many years.

His widow, Zoe Rose, flew in from Ohio for the ceremony in Gomorrah South (another Guy-ism).

His daughter and son-in-law from Sparks also attended.

Guy and veteran Las Vegas Review-Journal Capital Bureau Chief Ed Vogel both made it in their first year, beating out seven other worthy nominees.

Thanks be to all of Guy's former colleagues who sent endorsements.

I'll publish them shortly.

I'm not involved in any political campaigns, so I will close 2012 undefeated at 1-0.

Sometimes the press does something right.

THE SOCIAL REGISTER. Ann Romney comes to town today. Is she bringing her driving dog or prancing horse? (That's not a personal attack on her husband.)

SUPPORT THE NEVADA CITIZEN TV PROJECT to re-establish a sorely needed non-corporate community channel in these parts.
