   Everybody knows the dice are loaded.
Everybody rolls with their fingers crossed.
   Everybody knows the war is over.
Everybody knows the good guys lost.
   Everybody knows the fight was fixed.
The poor stay poor, the rich get rich.
   That's how it goes.
Everybody knows...
Everybody knows the scene is dead
   But there's gonna be a meter on your bed
That will disclose
   What everybody knows...
   Everybody talking to their pockets.
Everybody wants a box of chocolates
   and a long red rose.
   Everybody knows. Everybody knows.
That's how it goes.
Everybody knows.

I hope you understand I just had to go back to the island.

If Reform Fails: Health Care, Jobs and Unions — new power to the people on the public airwaves

The program premiers were available to every television set in the region because of a high-mileage media hybrid.

The shows appeared on both commercial and community stations. The non-corporate entity produced the events, commercial TV greatly expanded distribution.

Thus began an ongoing series of sane public interest programs which generate both entertaining heat and more than a little light.

Please spread the word and consider contributing to the cause online at ReSurge.TV.

You may also take the public option known as the U.S. Postal Service and send a check or money order to ReSurge.TV, P.O. Box 10034, Reno NV 89510.

Your contribution will help fund the distribution as well as ongoing efforts at developing new media, including a regional, non-corporate community radio station and the return of community television to Reno-Sparks-Washoe.

You are present at the creation of what I hope can become a new media model where the programming accurately reflects what's happening on the ground and the media impact is powerful enough to forcefully pass the message upward.

Thanks.

Be well. Raise hell.

Andrew

Martin Luther King weekend was a whipsaw of conflicting emotions.

At the Reno Unitarian church last Sunday, preacher Barbano's introduction of the racially oppressed and internationally famous Yerington family brought a sustained standing ovation.

Taylissa Marriott, left, and Jayla Tolliver

++++

ONLINE ADDENDUM: Their presence later motivated me to sing "We Shall Overcome" very...robustly. I am not bashful when it comes to Pete Seeger. I was certainly by far from the best singer but I was damn sure the loud...er, most visceral.

++++
I was honored to meet 14 year-old sisters Jayla Tolliver and Taylissa Marriott, their mother, Nancy, and Uncle Reggie Brantley (Sparks Ironworkers Local 118/AFL-CIO, ret.). They were accompanied by fearless top-gun civil rights attorney Terri Keyser-Cooper who recently filed major federal civil rights litigation against the City of Yerington and the Lyon County School District.
++++

ONLINE ADDENDUM: I still marvel that pockets of Nevada still insist on taking us back to the future of Mississippi 1955. As I told the assembled multitudes, Alabama Judge Roy Moore could win an election in Lyon County. As MLK Day dawned, I was further depressed to learn that the Douglas County GOP is importing defrocked Phoenix star-crossed dresser Joe Arpaio. Nothing like a little competition to bring out the worst in Cow County Nevada. Sheriff Joe should come out and visit his buddy, Yerington Sheriff Bull Connor.

SchutzStaffel Joe is an expert at running concentration camps and Yerington obviously has trouble concentrating. They could have one helluva bash-the-brown people fundraiser to help all them their freedom-loving racists take their country back...ward. As Sheriff Bull said, all this 12th Century conduct is covered by that first First Amendment thing, including the right to free expression, cozily protected by pointy hoods and white sheets. Maybe they can solicit an (ahem!) cross-promotional deal with Tide or Mr. Clean. (Scratch Mr. Clean. He's obviously a furriner and probably swishy with that ear-ring thing.) Don't forget, the Constitution was written by white guys, so what else do y'all need to know?

++++
BACK TO ALTERNATIVE REALITY, AKA REALITY. Adding to Nevada's embarrassment, the Huffington Post just published an incisive review of the Yerington case which you may access with the actual legal docs via this column at Barbwire.US/ Alast and alack, the Huf 'n' Puff's photos have been sanitized. You may view the disgusting (ab)originals here.

MLK SUNDAY IN CHURCH — (Left to right) Jayla Tolliver, Taylissa Marriott, their mother, Nancy, and Uncle Reggie Brantley (Sparks Ironworkers Local 118/AFL-CIO, ret.), attorney Terri Keyser-Cooper and four-time former Reno-Sparks NAACP President Lonnie Feemster.

You can help.

Ms. Keyser-Cooper is not charging for her estimable legal expertise but the family must foot expensive ongoing court costs, 10 grand and more. They've built a GoFundMe page at https://www.gofundme.com/attorney-fees-against-racism/

Help them out. Please.

SPARKS ANTES IN. The 20th Onie Cooper Memorial MLK Caravan formed last Monday morning at the Sparks LDS church. All of the above generated news from four locally-affiliated network stations.

I was gratified that The Barbwire brought out people who would not have otherwise known. I also got vile responses.

"I get death threats all the time," attorney Terri said, speaking from the hard-earned experience of the avatar for justice she has always been.

IN CHURCH, TOO. Reno-Sparks NAACP President Patricia Gallimore asked those in attendance on Sunday to pray for NAACP matriarch and former president Dolores Feemster. Grandma has been hospitalized for more than a week. I visited her and played video of her son, Lonnie, also a former president, with the Yerington family.

INTERNATIONAL EMBARRASSMENTS, PART DEUX. The hits just keep on comin' so I'll make some bizarro projections.

Barbwire Peerless Predixion: If Haiti receives substantial international aid as a result of Czar Trumpsky's explicit and exlaxatively racist comments, Donaldov the Great will take credit for having stimulated "HUGE" non-taxpayer relief for that beleaguered island. Almost makes me wish he'd utter additional putdowns of our U.S. citizens in Puerto Rico. Anything to bring back electricity and running water.

BPP2: You can win bar bets identifying the next nation upon which Trump will foment war. (Afghanistan, Yemen, Iraq and Syria don't count.)

And the winner is: MEXICO! They won't pay for Emperor Hatrian's Wall, so he can declare as a bad deal the 1848 treaty securing our spoils from winning the Mexican War (in defense of slavery). He will consider it a corporate takeover, noting that drug cartels are making billions in profit that should go to US corporations.

BPP3: After conquest, we will make Mexico our 51st state which will distort the symmetrical American flag star lineup. Trump's solution will be to simply replace the stars with his face.

We will instead keep it at 50 by letting Texas secede because they're dangerous. Under its deal to gain admission to the union, the Lone Star Republic can metastasize into five states anytime, thus giving it permanent U.S. Senate control.

That solution came from White House demonstrators via Nevada expatriate and Barbwire DC spy Jan C. who suggested "pressure on the Lyon school board to teach the origin of our DNA in Africa. We're all related. 'But all our schoolbooks are printed in Texas so they'll never tell the truth about this' as a young black girl or maybe ten told me down at the White House."

So let's remove their influence.

El Presidénte, of course, will take credit for renegotiating the Mexican War even if he couldn't change the flag to worship his own image and likeness.

  I encourage you to donate to the cause at Barbwire.TV/ The medium that shapes public opinion needs at least one refuge where it is not filtered through the distorted green eye shades of prissy corporate accountants for whom profit is the only priority; where self-censorship is the journalist's normal work environment and where all sins of omission are tacitly encouraged and forgiven with the wave of a balance sheet.

  This is important. We've got a lot of work to do.
