"When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro" > Hunter S. Thompson
Chris Ault is a great coach but a flailing boxer.
He telegraphed his knockout punch and the PR media missed it.
Servitors of the jockocracy
as usual, the mainstream media would not risk any speculation that the "big
press conference" Ault announced might close the little general's career.
Haven't these guys been watching Fox News or listening to KKKOH?
Speculation is the name
of the ratings game.
A few days before resigning as UNR head football guru, Ault lamented
looming schedules which almost guarantee frequent lopsided losses to mega-funded
opponents.
Ault may go on to a very lucrative NFL career.
Bueno.
It's long past time to end the scam of the mythological student-athlete in big
money sports.
I'm a union man.
People should be fairly
paid for honest labor.
St. Louis Cardinals baseball player Curt Flood had to go to court
to end team ownership of players as cattle.
He destroyed his career
in the process.
Colleges squander billions while their players starve and risk losing eligibility
and scholarships for accepting as little as a sandwich.
UNR student health services have been delivered at artificially inflated prices
for a quarter-century to subsidize a voracious athletic department.
There's never enough.
Just as the Reno Aces and Reno Bighorns are farm teams for the
big leagues, UNR runs a taxpayer-subsidized training camp for the NFL.
I pity the next Wolf Pack coach who will almost certainly get quickly fired
for committing two unforgivable sins: not beating the likes of Notre Dame
(remember the flaming 2009 shutout?) and not being Chris Ault.
PREDICTION CONNIPTION PART DEUX. Shortly
will come earth-shaking revelations undercutting the validity of hundreds of
longstanding Nevada laws.
Stay tuned.
WALLA WALLA WHOA! On New Year's Day, the
PBS Newshour reported that a Washington community college created a "first
of its kind in the nation" wine-making program.
God, even PBS has become incompetent.
My alma mater, Fresno
State, had a world-class enology department when I attended in the 1960s.
Still does.
I need a drink.
NOW A TOAST. On Jan. 3, Reno attorney and
occasional Tribune columnist Jeffrey
Blanck will be sworn in as the first non-African-American president
in the 66-year existence of the Reno-Sparks
NAACP.
Awesome.
Buenissimo.

SUPPORT THE DONALD. Kudos for the kind words
about Don Dondero (1920-2003)
as we ramp up the campaign to install the photographic superstar in the Nevada
Press Association Hall of Fame.
His life's work appeared worldwide, including this newspaper.
Enlist in the campaign to install Big Don.
