RE: Arnold Jones Evans Annual Scholarship Awards

Every year at the Annual Constitutional Convention we award three recent high school graduates who are family members of our union members a $3,000 scholarship. The three students are chosen for these scholarships by competing in an essay contest.

This year not one student has applied for the scholarship.

I urge you to contact your members who have children eligible. They would have graduated from High School in 2008 and are entering college this September. They need to write a 1,000 word essay on the following question:

Today, working men and women have been forced to sacrifice well-deserved wage increases in exchange for the constantly rising cost of health care. Millions of Americans who don’t have any health care suffer with treatable illnesses and live in fear of what may come next. At the same time, the skyrocketing costs of drugs and health care in general have had a negative impact on our entire community. All of the Presidential candidates have proposed some type of universal health care.

Which of the plans currently being proposed makes the most sense for working families? Also, what other changes would you make in the system to make it more accessible and affordable for all Americans?

For more information and an application, please e-mail Sarina L. Riley at riley.sarina@att.net or call the Henderson office at 702 459-1414.

Thank you.
